An assessment tells you where you are today, where you want to be, and what to fix first. You don't need to be an ITIL expert to run one. You need honest answers, a few colleagues, and the willingness to look at gaps without blaming anyone.

Capability or maturity?Capability atau maturity?

These two words are often mixed up. A capability assessment looks at one practice at a time: how well does incident management, for example, achieve its purpose? A maturity assessment looks at the whole organization, including governance and the value system. This site helps you with capability, which is the best place for beginners to start.

This is a simplified self-assessment inspired by the five capability levels of the ITIL Maturity Model. It is not the official ITIL assessment, which is carried out by PeopleCert-accredited partners. The level names used here (Initial, Repeatable, Defined, Measured, Optimized) are our own short labels: the official model describes each level by its characteristics and defines specific criteria for each practice at levels 2 to 5. Level 3, for example, also requires working links with related practices. Use this tool to learn, start conversations and plan improvements.

The five levelsLima level

LevelLevelIn one sentenceDalam satu kalimatYou might hearYang mungkin terdengar
1 · InitialWork happens ad hoc and depends on individuals.Pekerjaan berjalan ad hoc dan bergantung pada individu."Ask Budi, he knows how.""Tanya Budi saja, dia yang tahu."
2 · RepeatableBasic ways of working exist but are not always followed.Cara kerja dasar sudah ada, tetapi tidak selalu diikuti."We have a template, somewhere.""Kita punya templatenya, entah di mana."
3 · DefinedThe practice is documented, standard and used across teams.Practice terdokumentasi, standar, dan dipakai di semua tim."Everyone follows the same steps.""Semua orang mengikuti langkah yang sama."
4 · MeasuredPerformance is measured and managed against targets.Kinerja diukur dan dikelola terhadap target."We missed our target last month, here's why.""Bulan lalu target kita meleset, ini penyebabnya."
5 · OptimizedThe practice is improved continually, using data and feedback. We changed the flow again after last sprint's review.""Kami mengubah alurnya lagi setelah review sprint lalu."

Most teams starting out land at level 1 or 2 for most practices. That is normal and not a failure. For most organizations, level 3 is a strong, realistic target.

What the wizard asksApa yang ditanyakan wizard

For every practice you choose, the wizard asks the same seven questions. Each covers one aspect of the practice and links back to the four dimensions: purpose and scope, people and roles, workflow, information and tools, measurement, partners and integration, and improvement. For each question you answer twice: where you are today, then your target for the next 6–12 months.

Running it with your teamMenjalankannya bersama tim

  1. Pick a small scope. Choose three to five practices that matter most right now. The wizard suggests a starter set around the service desk.
  2. Invite the right people. Two or three people who do the work, plus one person who receives it. Different views make answers honest.
  3. Answer with evidence. For each answer, ask "can we show it?" A documented process nobody follows is level 2, not 3.
  4. Set realistic targets. Aim one level up, two at most, for the next 6–12 months.
  5. Pick the top three gaps. The results page lists the biggest gaps and what the next level looks like. Turn each into a small improvement action.
  6. Repeat in six months. Export your results now, import them later, and compare.
  1. Pilih cakupan kecil.
  6. Ulangi enam bulan lagi. Ekspor hasil sekarang, impor kembali nanti, lalu bandingkan.
Real-world example: a logistics company's IT teamContoh kasus: tim TI perusahaan logistik3 min3 menit

A 12-person IT team at a logistics company assesses four practices in a 90-minute session: service desk, incident management, change enablement and problem management.

Tim TI beranggotakan 12 orang di sebuah perusahaan logistik menilai empat practice dalam sesi 90 menit: service desk, incident management, change enablement, dan problem management.

Incident management scores 2.4 today, with a target of 3.4. The biggest gap is measurement: nobody tracks how long warehouse scanners are down. Their first action is small: add "time to restore" to every incident and review it weekly. Six months later, they re-import last year's file and see measurement at level 3.

  • Common mistake: scoring how things should work, not how they actually work. Choose what happens most of the time.
  • Don't use scores to compare or rank teams. People will inflate their answers, and the assessment loses its value.
  • Your answers are saved only in this browser. Export a file if you want to keep or share them.
  • Kesalahan umum: menilai bagaimana seharusnya, bukan bagaimana kenyataannya.
